I cannot wait to share with you yet another incredible use of coconut oil: a skin-softening body scrub! I have been exploring all the uses of coconut oil I have never tried before, as you saw last week from my natural alternative to “goo gone,” and this body scrub has blown me away yet again. It’s simple, using only 3 ingredients; cheap, coming in at under $15; and such a great exfoliate (it feels sooooo nice on the skin). You’ll want to make one for yourself and give one as a gift (I know I just found my go-to gift for people!)
You can mix this up in under 5 minutes using only the three ingredients listed below. Keep it in your shower and use it to do double duty for your winter skin – the turbinado sugar is a fantastic exfoliate, and the coconut and almond oils re-hydrate your skin and keep it nice and smooth. Ready for the recipe? Here we go:
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup sweet almond oil (I used the below, and you can click here to get it.)
Grab a clean jar or other canister you want to keep your body scrub in. Mix all ingredients together in a large mixing bowl until well blended. Transfer to clean canister.
It’s best to make this in small batches (like what this recipe yields), so that you don’t get any mold or anything in the jar. It’s so easy to whip this stuff up that you won’t even mind. Also, one caveat: be careful in your shower as this can make the floor slippery. Rinse the shower floor good with some soap or make sure you have a good non-slip mat. The nice part about this scrub is that, despite the coconut/almond oils, there is barely any scent to it. If you prefer a scented scrub, you can add 5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil, such as vanilla, eucalyptus or peppermint.
Enjoy your exfoliated, smooth skin!
